I discovered a little paradise right in front of Maputo. Last Saturday I persuaded my travel partner to pack the bag, cross the bridge and take time out at the Catembe Gallery Hotel in Catembe .
The trip took less than 30 minutes from the center of Maputo. Take note that you need to pay 160mzn at the toll. Did you know that they accept debit cards? Super convenient.
At the Hotel we were greeted by refreshments and smiles.
The Catembe Gallery Hotel is a small boutique hotel, immersed in Mozambique’s unique cultural and historical legacy. The hotel has existed since 1958. It was at this time known as Pousada Marisol where Samora Machel took refuge from PIDE during the colonial period on her way to join the Mozambican Freedom Movement which was based Dar es Salam, where it came from to free the country.
61 years later, and the Catembe Gallery Hotel now has accommodation with views, penthouses, restaurant, spa, conference room, swimming pool and playground for the little ones.
We spent the night in the chalets that are right in front of the sea. Perfect for some alone time or a romantic weekend.
You know the bathroom is everything to me.
The sunset …
The full moon …
For dinner, we decided to explore the area and sample the clams from the famous Diogo’s. It was night of game and since none of us is a football fan, we spent time drinking passion fruit caipirinha and cheering for those who scored. When in catembe always opt for clams! DIOGO did not disappoint.
For those who live in a very busy area waking up with nature and the waves felt the perfect time to do yoga.
The breakfast influenced a lot in my opinion about a hotel. While we must be realistic, we can not require a 5 star hotel in a 3 star hotel. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was not 5 star but would give 4.5 / 5 as breakfast was fresh and delicious.
Once we wanted to relax we opted for the spa instead of the pool which was already full. Relaxing with views of the sea and Maputo. This was definitely an experience.
At 13 we were still satiated but as we should check out the day we closed the FAROL. A restaurant not far from the hotel which is also opposite the beach.
Best day to go is Sunday because they play music and have a playground so it is perfectly suited for Sunday family lunch.
Here we settle for clams and ciders. I spent the whole afternoon dancing to the sound of the DJ.
There are many things to do in Catembe, from water sports to horseback riding. Shame this trip was short and did not get a chance to show it all. I promise to do an article about it later this year.
I love it when you interact with me via comments, .mail and my instagram ( Miss_Elisa )! Keep up the questions, suggestions and affection!
