How to buy a gift for a baby

Bonjour Señoritas,

I love attending baby’s bowers , it’s like a grown up version of the tea party games I used to play with my cousins when we were younger.

It’s all fun and games until you have to think of a gift for the mommy to be. Some feel awkward asking the mom to be what they would like and some moms actually don’t know what they would like , well today’s post will help you offer a meaningful , helpful, cute and useful gift to a mom to be or new mom.

We going to break this down in sections by  the baby’s stage (1-3/3-6/6-9/9-12) , so you are not overwhelmed with the info.

Gifts before baby is born

This is the best time to give a gift because you can buy literally anything , as we can assume that the mom is still preparing the new addition.

Good straight forward gifts that welcome the baby are great:

  • Blankets (not more than 2)
  • Receiving blankest (not more than 2)
  • New born clothes (not more than 3 as babies grow very quickly)
  • A set of hats, hand muffles and little socks
  • Milk bottles and accessories such as milk warmers, bottles sanitizes etc
  • New born nappies ( if you know the parents preferences)
  • Baby bathtubs or things for bath time
  • Manicure sets for babies
  • Changing Pads
  • Dipper Bag
  • Nursing Pillow

I personally avoid all types of toiletries for babies, because 1. i don’t know the brand the mom will use, 2. many babies are born with sensitive skin and end up not using any of those commercial products.I used 100% glycerine soap for an eternity.

Gifts from 6-9 months

Cute clothes with sayings are ALWAYS a nice gift. Just make sure you know the kgs of the baby before you buy , it’s more accurate than buying according to months.

At this point baby is starting solid food and juices. Feeding supplies will be good at this stage. Things like little plates, bowls, baby cutlery , sippy cups, splat mat, baby food maker interesting bibs will definitely be welcomed.

Teething will also start sometime soon, so teething toys are also a good idea.

Gifts from 9-12 months

At this point you can start introducing toys (YAY). But let’s be smart about the toys you buy, stick to toys that entertain the baby. Luckily those same toys help develop  sensor and motor skills.

Stay away from small toys that can easily be a shocking hazard. HINT: If it can go through the toilet paper roll hole, it is a shocking hazard

Gifts for All months

These gifts are welcome at any stage.

  • Weather appropriate clothes
  • Bibs
  • Digital Thermometer
  • Baby nail scissors and clippers
  • Bulb Syringe
  • Blankets/ Receivers
  • Waterproof mattress pad
  • Hooded Bath towels

When buying gifts for a baby, remember you are technically buying it for the mom, so try to go according to her tastes. If you know she truly despises the color pink, don’t go buying pink things as a gift for her baby.

Hope these guidelines help out. Mommies adore receiving gifts for her babies, if you unsure keep it simple, and you will never go wrong.

Au Revoir,

Señorita Elisa
